Mihail left Bulgaria in the 1990s to settle in Montreal, where he raised his daughter, Roza, now an adult, while establishing a reputation as a specialist in contemporary art. Although he pays little attention to his roots, a news piques his interest: an eight-year-old girl from a small Bulgarian village has created incredible paintings that have gone viral online. Soon, a collector tasks him with verifying the authenticity of this phenomenon. Somewhat reluctantly, Mihail embarks on a journey that leads him not only to a child who appears to be a prodigy, but also through the past and towards the future, as he explores the complex relationships between life, art, and human beings.
“Nina Roza” is a fascinating film about the art world, and, above all, the universe that surrounds it, as well as a story about emotions and lost identities. It is an intimate, elegant drama, with touches of humor and a profound sensory dimension; it takes us on a journey between the symbolic and the tangible, showing us that, at times, the journey matters more than the destination.
