GEN REC
An initiative to make young people participate in the different activities of the Festival
GEN REC is an initiative of the REC Festival to involve young people in the various activities of the Festival. Through GEN REC we want to get to know the youngest and help them develop their cinematographic concerns and we do this with a training program called ‘Young Programmers’ and an expansion of the Festival’s Youth Jury.
With the Young Programmers program, we invite the youngest to participate in a program of four face-to-face sessions in which they can learn, from scratch, how to think, organize and program a festival from the hands of active professionals who will show , step by step, how a festival is thought up and how the professionals do it.
The aim of the program is to convey the basic knowledge needed to know how to organize a film festival and to prepare the program also in a practical way. The program is committed to theoretical and practical training, so one of its strengths will be that the participants will design their own real programming proposal, based on the knowledge acquired during the different sessions.
Also from the 2023 edition, the REC Festival is expanding the number of places to be a Youth Jury at the festival. Young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who want to experience a film festival from the inside can be the new Youth Jury of the twenty-third edition of the REC Festival.
As members of the Young Jury, the participants will attend all the screenings of the Opera Prima section, that is, the films competing in the festival. Based on their evaluation, and with a joint final deliberation, it will be decided which proposal is deserving of the Young Jury prize.
If you are between 18 and 25 years old, you like cinema, you want to know how a festival is created from the inside and you want to learn about cinema programming, this is your opportunity.
The Young Programmers program invites young people to create their own programming proposal for the festival, which opens its doors to a participatory action, where young people will participate in the official programming of the Festival by proposing a selection of films that will reach the public of the festival during the next month of November.
So that the participants have the necessary tools and knowledge, the Festival will organize some introductory sessions in the world of festivals and cultural management. Through four face-to-face sessions taught by active professionals, the participants will learn from scratch how to think, organize and program a festival, obtaining the basic knowledge of the organization of cultural activities to devise their own proposal of programming
They will do this through the viewing of exclusive films, talks and the presentation of their project. As a result of the work dynamics of the participants, some of the proposals that the public of the REC will be able to enjoy will come out. In addition, there will also be a prize related to film festivals.
The Jurat Jove, with a long tradition at the Festival since it was launched in 2013, has expanded the number of places for participation, in order to give space to the most dynamic and involved public in the territory. If you are between 18 and 30 years old, you like cinema and want to make your voice heard, you can be a Youth Jury at the REC Festival.
A great opportunity to experience the Festival from the inside, enjoy its projections and atmosphere, meet the guests and come into contact with other cultures.
As members of the Jurat Jove, the participants will attend all screenings of the International Opera Prima competition. Based on their assessment, and with a joint final deliberation, they will decide on the proposal deserving of the Jurat Jove prize.
Must be available from December 4 to 8
Throughout several participatory actions, the GEN REC initiative will give space to the youngest to promote knowledge of the cultural world, enriching experiences, and the possibility of enjoying the Festival from the inside.
One of the most influential initiatives in the fabric of the city is, without a doubt, the MIRA’M Educational Project. Developed with the collaboration of several agents, it is one of the oldest initiatives of the Festival, as it has been carried out since the second edition, in 2002. It is a series of screenings for high school students, focused on promote the creation of new audiences and the discussion of various topics of interest. At the end of the screenings, the students have the opportunity to talk with members of the film’s team in a dynamic debate. This is an activity open to all secondary school teachers and students in the Tarragonès region and from 2019 to training centers with students with various abilities.
Over the years, more than 5,000 students from all the IES in the region have gone through the Mira’m sessions, sharing experiences, concerns and emotions with creators, specialists and special guests, creating moments that will last in their memory .
Supported by the Tarragona City Council and the Tarragona County Council, the project also has the collaboration of the Tarragonès Regional Council, which liaises with the IES of the region, as well as providing them with transport for those who do not they come from the city center. Among the collaborators could also be counted the entities that would participate in the debate, and the teachers of the IES, who would help to select the topics to be discussed.
