The Espai Jove Kesse, the Modern Art Museum of Tarragona and the Teatret del Serrallo will offer screenings on Fridays and Sundays throughout the month

A range of very extensive proposals, spread throughout the city and aimed at very diverse audiences and concerns: these are the qualities that bring together the cultural proposal of the REC Festival, which will last throughout the month of November in four spaces in Tarragona. REC 2023 will be held from November 22 to 26, but throughout the month special screenings will be held in various spaces in the city.

The program will be spread over four different spaces; The CaixaForum Tarragona (Thursday), the Espai Jove Kesse (Friday) and the Modern Art Museum of Tarragona and the Teatret del Serrallo (Sunday). Each of them will host a line of screenings that are linked to the programmatic line of the Festival and that will allow viewers to have a preview, with proposals that will expose the talent that lies in the creations of emerging directors from all over the world

On the one hand, the Teatret del Serrallo will offer advance passes for the Vermut Sessions on Sundays 5, 12 and 19 November from 12 noon and will transform, once again, this space facing the sea into a projection room for the views most original of the current scene.

On the other hand, this year they join the program of previous screenings with the REC Xics program, the family tours at the Museum of Modern Art in Tarragona, which will take place on Sundays 12 and 19 November, from 11:30 a.m. In this way, the REC 2023 consolidates a proposal of unpublished and auteur cinema aimed at audiences of all ages.

The MIRA’M program offers screenings on Fridays in November at Espai Jove Kesse

As part of the REC 2023 pre-sessions, this year the Festival is committed to going one step further with one of its classic activities: the MIRA’M Educational Project, which for almost a decade has been interrelating contemporary cinema proposals with the city and the students of the training centers, and which in this 2023 edition lasts throughout the month of November.

In this framework – and within the GEN REC initiative, which wants to bring the REC Festival closer to the young – the call for MIRA’M 2023 is being extended to three sessions during the month of November with the alliance of the REC Festival and the Espai Jove Kesse to open MIRA’M to all citizens for three Fridays in November. The screenings will take place on November 3, 10 and 17 at 8 p.m. Once the screening is over, participants will be able to take part in the open debate with different professionals specializing in the subject covered in the film.

These are the films that will be screened at Espai Kesse on Fridays 3, 10 and 17 November:

THE ORDINARIES

Germany, 2022, 120′. Dir. Sophie Linnenbaum

November 3rd. 8pm

What character would you be if our society was a movie? Will you be the protagonist or a sidekick who disappears in the first scene? Faced with this question is Paula, the protagonist of THE ORDINARIES, a dystopian fable that imagines a society divided by cinematic roles.

Free entrance. At the end of the screening, there will be a discussion led by Núria Araüna, professor in the URV Department of Communication Studies.

SYSTEM CRASHER

Germany, 2019, 118’. Dir: Nora Fingscheidt

November 10th 8pm

Benni is 9 years old and has unbridled energy. In his wild search for affection, he drives everyone around him to despair. It is small, but dangerous; wherever she goes, she ends up getting kicked out: she’s what Child Protective Services calls a system crasher. She goes through several foster homes in search of a love that no one seems to be able to give her, she just wants to be back with her mother!

Free entrance. At the end of the screening, there will be a discussion with Jaume Descarrega, technical director of PSICURT and member of the Culture Commission of the COPC.

FILM TO BE DETERMINED

November 17th  8pm

The film programmed for this session will be chosen by the young participants of the Young Programmers program also included in the proposals of the GEN REC program. Through this action, the young people will propose some of the films that will reach the Festival public during the month of November.

The Joves Programadors program includes exclusive film screenings, talks and event presentations, including the choice of film to be viewed and discussed on Friday, November 17 at Espai Jove Kesse.
