Hollywood, Bollywood, Nollywood? Bah… If you haven’t discovered Wakaliwood yet, you haven’t seen anything yet! Nabwana, a Ugandan brick maker, has made a name for himself for his insanely fun, hand-crafted, amazing action movies full of made-up martial arts, impossible weapons and exploding heads – pure fantasy.
When Alan, from the USA, discovers it on the Internet, he decides to go in his search to help him launch his international career. Beyond the kung-fu, the cannibals and the laughs, Once Upon a Time in Uganda is a love letter to Do It Yourself, the passion and spirit of independent filmmaking, and reminds us (“thank you!” ), the incredible feeling of enjoying cinema in community and because we fall in love with cinema from the first moment.
