In the bar Babel, where the living and the dead intertwine, Dante struggles to remember his past before La Flaca, Death in this city, comes to collect her debt. Jacob hides from his father, a fanatical priest, his desire to become a drag queen, while Uma, a gypsy woman with her own wager, tries to deceive La Flaca to save her daughter. Between bargains and challenges, their destinies collide in a battle against the inevitable.
Filmmaker Gala del Sol signs the festival’s wildest and most festive session, described at Sundance as “a tropical steampunk fantasy”. Llueve sobre Babel invites us to revisit Dante’s inferno through a queer lens, where the mythical and the marginal entwine in an explosion of imagination.
