Jordan Firstman’s Club Kid to Open REC 2026, Nanni Moretti’s Sucederá esta noche to Close the Festival

Both films arrive in Tarragona following their screenings at the Cannes and Venice film festivals, where they received a warm reception

Tarragona International Film Festival has announced the two films that will open and close its 26th edition, taking place from 2 to 8 December. Club Kid (2026), the feature directorial debut of American filmmaker Jordan Firstman, will open the festival on 2 December at Teatre Tarragona, while Sucederá esta noche (2026), the latest film by Italian director Nanni Moretti, will close the festival on 7 December.

Both films arrive in Tarragona following their screenings at the Cannes and Venice film festivals and reflect REC’s two main commitments: continuing to serve as a platform for discovering and showcasing emerging international filmmaking talent, with one of the season’s most notable debuts, Club Kid; and strengthening the REC Selection program, which brings highly anticipated works by established filmmakers to audiences, as exemplified by Nanni Moretti’s Sucederá esta noche. Both films will be presented in special preview screenings ahead of their theatrical release, continuing REC’s tradition of giving Tarragona audiences an exclusive opportunity to discover some of the most outstanding films on the international cinema scene.

Club Kid: From Cannes to the Opening of REC

The Tarragona-based festival will open with Club Kid, the feature directorial debut of writer, actor, and comedian Jordan Firstman. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, where it received a lengthy standing ovation.

Starring Firstman himself, the comedy-drama explores New York City’s nightlife through Peter, a party promoter accustomed to a life of excess. His world is turned upside down when a stranger arrives at his home with Arlo, a ten-year-old boy who claims to be his son. Combining irreverent humor with tenderness, the film explores the clash between nightlife and adult responsibilities, as well as unexpected fatherhood and new forms of family.

Featuring Jordan Firstman, Cara Delevingne and Diego Calva, Club Kid will be screened on 2 December at Teatre Tarragona as part of the REC 2026 opening ceremony.

Sucederá esta noche, Nanni Moretti’s Latest Film, to Close the Festival

The 26th edition of REC will draw to a close with Sucederá esta noche, the latest feature film by Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti, which was presented in the Official Competition section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.

Inspired by stories by Israeli writer Eshkol Nevo, the film follows Matteo and Greta, two characters who meet unexpectedly on a tennis court. Over the years, their lives follow parallel paths until another encounter opens the door to a second chance. Through their story, Moretti reflects on human relationships, the passage of time, and the possibility of starting over.

Starring Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca, with an appearance by Nanni Moretti himself, Sucederá esta noche will close REC 2026 on 7 December.

With these two films, REC unveils the first titles of its 26th edition, which will take place in Tarragona from 2 to 8 December and will once again champion contemporary cinema, fresh cinematic perspectives, and emerging talent.
